What's the temperature where you are???

56° and sunny with 24% humidity at 9:00 A.M. High today of 72°. Chicken delights will be spinach and tuna.

Still beautiful and snowy up in the mountains.

Down here we have about a month and a half left to do outdoors stuff before the heat returns. Gotta get out there while we can! Afternoon hike:

Currently +3C (38F) but it’s going to drop like a rock here. By afternoon it will be -6C and only gets colder from there.

Remember here in the north it’s the overnight temps that rule. Daytime
Highs will only be present for about an hr or so in the late afternoon.

Oh and the ever present snow and lack of sunshine rules.

Have a great day/evening/night everyone and keep smiling!

I am blessed with a good solid barn, buts still when it’s -20 or -30 outside it’s cold in the barn also.

I have IR heater panels that they can warm up under and the Hen House where they sleep at night is fully insulated. There are a couple of IR panels in there also, it will stay above freezing in there even on the coldest nights.

I have 3 that are in my heated feedroom/office in the barn: my frizzle silkie rooster, an OEGB bantam hen and one of my layers who was extremely ill a month ago so she is in there until her weight returns to normal.

Recently I bought a portable diesel heater (ones you would use camping) which I tried out in the barn and loved - it puts out a good amount of heat so it will create a nice warming spot for the chooks once I finish installing it better. Warm up and then off again to dig in the horse stalls - yummy - horse poop!

:sick Hahaha

They get outside when the weather is good, this past Saturday I had them outside and they had a blast trying to dig and dust bathe in the frozen dirt under the spruce tree haha. I was throwing old horse bedding down on the icy path to the house and they decided to go and follow the path hahahaha
I had to herd them home.

I've seen many people here recommend IR panels, and they intrigue me. I haven't seen 'em mentioned in my country, so I guess it's a fairly recent thing? (like the last 10 years, news don't always travel fast lol) ... OK, you all convinced me, I just ordered one online to try out. :yesss:

Temp: -1C/30.2F (almost above freezing!!), still a little wind but it's slowing down.

I have 2 wall mounted panels in the Hen House it’s divided in half because I originally just used half of my shavings storage in the barn. But I then took over the rest of the storage area (chicken math!).

Hen House-A: I mounted it by the original doorway it’s a popular roosting location at night for my old girl Blanche she is 8 or 9 this year.

Hen House-B: this is the second half of the old storage area. I mounted the panel on the far wall - it’s a popular location at night for my ones moulting. Looks like someone is checking out a nest box under the ledge there.

I don’t have rail ledges - I found there was too much fighting and hens falling off when squabbling. I put in the ledges which are a huge hit with them, and warmer in the winter. Easy peasy to clean, clean pick poops every day and add shavings as needed.

I also have overhead Sweeter Heaters in witj my old Roo and his silkie and older ill ladies.

And one in the main part of the barn.

We are experiencing a snow squall here till at least 9am cst.

31°F while feeling like 19°F with 18% humidity and a 26°F dew point with N winds at 22mph.

Windy with snow this morning that will taper off in the afternoon but remain cloudy all day. Morning high of 33°F before dropped to near 20. Winds NNW at 20-30mph with occassional gusts to over 40mph being possible and a 100% chance of snow.

Good thing I talk to my therapist next Tuesday evening, need to fill her in on what happened at work as I'm really struggling with it and my depression has definitely begun to rear its head again for the first time this yr. I'm also really stressed and anxious about all this and how utterly messy and horrible it is gonna go at work.
