Whats the weirdest thing your chickens have eaten or tried to eat??

My RIR tries to eat my freakin' toes every time I go into the coop, sneakers or flipflops. I had this rooster who tried to eat a cherry tomato (by swallowing it whole). Had to pull it out of his throat (EW). They get lizards all the time, and once a hummingbird. I also give them these nasty larva grub worm things that I find when I garden, and it's always a war over who gets the most! SO gross.

Eachother. One night, a weasel killed two of my juvi Americaunas. The next morning, I found the other twenty devouring what was left of their poor brothers

I hope this works. You can see one of my chickens attacking a live frog, it found under a bag of growing compost. Five frogs five chickens they never stood a chance. Has any one else seen this. I hope that the picture is in fact as a video. The stills do not do it justice. The chickens were so violent. Chasing down the frogs and eating them. Has anyone come across this before. As I was very surprised!!

I'm not surprised. They will hunt down and eat mice, snakes, and lizards. So I'm not surpised they ate up the frogs.

At least 2 of my 5 golden comets would occasionally eat pine shavings from week 1. When I moved them to the coop they would occasionally gobble down new shavings when I cleaned the coop. That can't be nutritious. So I said no more. When I used up the shavings, I switched to straw. Occasionally they eat some straw, mostly when I change it. I don't mind that.
I've also seen them try to eat split hazelnut shells that they dig up. Yes I have hazelnut trees. I walk through their pen daily looking for shells and anything else that looks dangerous. GC

I have one who ate a couple of 1/2 inch galvanized hog rings before I could get them up. I've quit letting them free range while I'm working or projects. I'm just waiting for her to get sick. I've heard it takes weeks or months before it hits.

Do the hog rings have any sharp edges? I'm wondering if there's any chance your chicken might just pass them. I lost a chicken to a half inch pointy wood screw. I had another chicken that ate three small gold screws and I conned my neighbors into
helping me operate on her! We were able to open the crop up with a tiny slit, pull the screws out and bandage it up. Then later I found out shewas actually a
Rooster and I had to get rid of him:( I had to make a new set of rules for myself when working on anything outside that involves any kind of small parts. I also bought a big wide magnet to scan the ground with.

They don't have points, but they are large enough that I'm worried for her, and for all I know they could have eaten other things, too. The people who owned the land before us were pigs and threw garbage all over the place. I thought we'd had gotten all of it up, but after a heavy rain, more turned up. They also eat plants that I know they shouldn't, but they don't seem to suffer any ill effects from eating them. There aren't any vets around here who treat chickens or any other kind of birds. I guess I will have to wait and see what happens.
