What's wrong with their feathers?

I know this thread is mostly about the fluffy split of this gene, but the three I have came from Chookschicks and turned out to be smooth split of the gene. Could you help me tell if they are hens or roos? Great chicks, smart and affectionate. I think they are about six weeks old.

And last of the three...Twilight

So...hens? roos? I live in the city and any roos need new home.

#1 and # 2 are hens- #3 is the tricky one. My guess would be roo for #3

I'm giving up on mine. Only a trio of F1 eggs hatched from Jubaby and I haven't gotten a single silkied Ameraucana out of them after two years. I've been breeding the roo to Silkies and they aren't producing either. They are nice looking birds and I enjoy having them around but I'm going to be eating a lot of blue egg omelettes from now on. I had a feeling of doom early on and now I know why.

thanks! but we had so many more....they die. NOT everyone is having that issue...I am considering stopping with them simply because I can't count on them to BE alive for the "planning stage" of breeding. So make that 12 fluffies...and no kidding I had like 20 or more in the beginning...they get the sniffles basically then boom their dead. noone else dies...just them sorry I have been sick myself and now I guess Im a little morose. But they die. I have one larger older female and she is getting a cross beak at this late stage even with trimming. So breeding her is out. These are the most fragile birds I have ever seen. PERIOD. Our plan to outcross them to Lavendar AM's to increase vigor may never be realized since if they can't make it to breeding age then,.... well there ya go. IF ALL these birds die I am out. I will continue with my Ameruacanas I was hoping to at least keep one or two fluffies to make some stronger lines but if not so be it...I had to many babies that have died to get more. I love them but they are breaking my heart.

Hang in there- you may have a few who do well. If not I may be able to send you some Lavender Fluffy splits soon. My Black Fluffy Cockerel is real close to becoming a man soon, lol. He just started crowing and as soon as I see a little more interest from him I will be putting him with my Lav girls. The babies will all be split for Lav and split for fluffy. I have 2 separate lines of Lavs for him so breeding those split chicks together will produce some nice healthy Lavender Fluffy babies!

Don't give up- if you want to try again let me know. I should have Fluffy Lav splits soon

I have had some bad luck along the way too, multiple times. I lost my last fluffy roo when it got hot this year, but am suppose to be getting 2 more at the end of the month. As far as the girls go I have 4 F2's, 2 F3's, and 4 of alice's line B hens (2 of which I hatched and 1 is fluffy, the other 2 that she sent me). All of them seem to do well. The fluffy one is about 8 months old, so I'm just waiting on a roo and her to start laying.

I'm still going to be working on Silkied Ameraucanas the "easy" way, by introducing Silkies. Maybe it was meant to be because as I was trying to salvage my salmon Silkies and ended up hatching some odd looking blue, black and splash chicks along with the salmons. It turns out that the F1 roo was getting into my Silkie pen. There are 4-5 of these chicks that are too young to tell if they will have silkied feathers.

but then they won't be Silkied Ameraucanas... they'll be silkie/ameraucana crosses.

Three of mine look like yours MamasBabies, plus I also got two black with white fronts - like penguins. All are regular feathered and very vigorous. I've been rereading this thread a little at a time and hope to glean some info about how to proceed. Just hoping for a boy, and hoping they are not all boys - they're precocious, not at all laid back. They hatched on Mothers Day, and are at the teenager stage - so comical...

Hoping to find a different batch of eggs to complement them, but it looks like the best bet is to cross them back to themselves in the coming year
