What's wrong with their feathers?

Quote:
Julie,
They are on their way to you!

Now, if someone could get an adult Ameraucana to you, that would be perfect for Ozzie ..... 2 projects in one pen! LOL

WOW ! That was quick ; you gals don't fool around . It really would be nice if both old Ozzie and Ozzie Jr [ don't recall a name ] each had a pen of black , blue , and splash Ameraucanas to head up . That would give you an immediate group of F1s with enough genetic diversity to really get going .
Genetic gurus ; I've always wondered why splash is not an accepted variety for showing in Ameraucanas . There are no problems connected to the splash gene are there ? [ Like deafness assosciated with white boxer dogs ]

I think DH (who is transporting) will be staying in a motel tonight. Hmmm, I wonder if he will ask if it is ok to have pets.

I didn't know that splash was not an accepted color! I think my girl is the prettiest of the three of them. Blue, black and her splash.

Someone asked about what a silkie feather looks like.
These are feathers from my Silkie pen.

This is from the Silkies old pen, but there are now other white chickens in there, so not sure who it is from.

This is a young Delaware feather, to compare to.

Then, here again, is a shot of one of my chicks.

EEs aplenty, but no luck at the swap today.

Checking out breeders tomorrow and Monday. Maybe I'll get lucky.

Kathy's dh will arrive later today with the two silkie hens, and I have a pen ready and set up for them. We will have to wait 30 days to be sure who the "daddy" is, but I'm excited about this experiment. Thanks so much, Kathy and especially her husband!

I still haven't heard when my shipping day is for the ameraucana chicks, but, of course, they will have to grow up a bit first. LOL

I never gave a name to the younger rooster - "Ozzie Jr."

But I named the two younger hens, Puff & Fluff. I'm not too original when it comes to naming things.

Just picked up the two little silkie girls from Kathy's husband. It was so great that he brought them to me from Missouri!

YAY! I am so glad you have them, safe and sound! Now, the wait for quarantine, and for them to be clear of Silkie from the Silkie rooster here. Probably a month to be sure, right? Then, on with the experiment!

Today marks (basically) the SFA chick's one week 'birthday'. There was some yolk absorbing trouble, and that caused some pasty butt. I think I've finally got it to stay clean and the feathers are growing in like they should.

The rest of my hatch can be seen here.
