Pretty pretty!
I have three Silkie Ameracauna crosses that hatched two weeks ago....I'm not thinking they'll be this pretty, but I'm still excited!
I love those birds....daaaaaaaaaaaaaang purdy.
ETA: I didn't mean to make that sound like a bad thing, just stating an observation. I know we've all put a lot of time, money, and effort into them, with a lot of setbacks, so whatever costs we can recover are a good thing.
I set about a dozen eggs three days ago from my F1 trio. I have two very timid ginger red silkie cocks in with them but they have been showing no interest in the hens, probably because they have a great deal of respect for the F1 cock. I also have a black cock that hatched from an egg marked F1 last year. I think he was a mistake since their is nothing blue about him and he somewhat larger and softer feathered than the others. Anyway, wish me luck. I will continue to update if anyone is interested.
It was from the smooth blue 1/2 Black Blehm pullet that Julie sent me last year, with one of the Silkied roos. It's a Splash, and it's currently hiding under its Chantecler 'Momma' with 7 Silkie babies and a couple of my Paint Ameraucana project.
I'm getting eggs from one of the Silkied pullets now, too- and they'll move into their own coop this week. The d'Uccle roo that was in there with them strangled himself in the avian netting over the run- I'm not at all sure how it happened as hubby found them, but it's terrible. Small solace knowing the pullets are pure now...
At any rate, I'll be setting any eggs that happen- it's not a frequent thing- after I send a few to some folks who had theirs massacred by the USPS and the weather.
I have to say- the roo with the red bleeding through is stunning, and I hope to be able to mix his coloring into the Paint project to make a Silkied Calico. How awesome would that be?
