What's wrong with their feathers?

Dedication like this is exactly what these guys need!

I applaud your dedication! And thank you for filling me in on the fact that "stuff is going on behind the scenes" of which I am not aware.

I think that if those of you working with these birds adopt a model of this being a "project" like the one I referenced will help you out in the long run. Look at the original Fluffies -- they seem to be having some health issues, and hatching issues. Think of these characteristics as the "unwanted" traits from one breed, and the Fluffy gene as the wanted trait. Your goal is to introduce the wanted trait and select against the unwanted traits.

Please understand that my post is selfish in nature -- in a few years, when I'm able, I want some!!! I'm just trying to help quicken the process of getting them established and healthy.

Honestly with an F1 x F1 breeding you could have whatever color by now, but, I've surprisingly yet to see ANY fluffies out there but the original splashes.

That's what led me to think that much of the breeding has been F1 X Fluffy, which would slow the dilution of the negative accumulation of inbreeding. And that's why I posted the suggestion of breeding half-sibling F1 X F1 to diminish the percentage of the original birds' genes.

If people here haven't considered that, I volunteered the information. If people are already doing that, then it's just me talking and talking....not something new.

I'm planning on adding them to my future-flock. I figure I have about eight years before I can buy property (after all my schooling is done) and have chickens. I'm a B/B/S and Lavender fan, so the fact that this mutation occurred in Splash is AWESOME for me. Since I have no interest in showing or selling offspring (they'll be ALL MINE!!! hahaha), I'd run the B/B/S and Lavender, Fluffy and non-Fluffy, all together, and just let things happen...maybe if things start looking unbalanced, I'd do some controlled breeding to even out the numbers.

And yes, I know that combining Lavender and B/B/S is frowned upon in the chicken world...however it doesn't seem to be in the Muscovy world, so I know I won't be conjuring up evil spirits if I let it happen in my own backyard. I envision all my poultry being black and shades of gray.

I have a 4 week old solid white sikie feathered pullet EE chick, without any other Silkie characteristics whatsoever. Trying to figure out how to reproduce solid white when she's old enough to breed...i.e. what roo, and where can I find him?!
