So many people have so many different opinions on what their favorite thing to use as a chick brooder box is. So I'm putting it out there - what's your absolute favorite thing to use? Be sure to comment with any specific things you do with your brooder, and to add anything not on the list that you use. You can also use the list as ideas of what to use in the future. Thank you for joining!

Also, have any of y'all tried brooding chicks in a camping tent? I recently saw the idea of using a 2 person camping tent as a brooder, and thought I might give it a try this spring.

We use one of those puppy pens to put the chicks outside on nicer days. We've used it in the house on occasion, but have a regular DYI built brooder for inside. I'll post that one too. IMG_0688.jpeg Brooder 6.jpg thermostat.jpg

In the house i used a 50 gal tote for the chicks and at 3 weeks i move them to a seperate coop.

For my ducklings i had i used a kiddie pooll

Have used multiple things. First brood was stock tank that now serves as the chickens feed storage(bags of seed/feed/grit/oyster all in it)

Then we used a tote. Then we used cardboard under a sheet with a puppy play pen with cardboard on the bottoms to keep chicks in lol that is our current set up, but we now have a broody plate instead of the 250watt red bulb. It's working much better, but we also learned from watching a Mama brood a hatch.

And with our broody hen, we had a similar puppy pen and cardboard with CHE outside(it was during Dec/Jan). We used pen panels we had used when we had moved our second batch outside with mini chick doors lol

Photos, we've learned a lot in a year lol tote was short temporary, and our coop has changed since these photos(although one with bucket waterer is from this past Dec)
