awesome pics guys!! i have some of these getting sent to me next month and im confused on how to breed them? the chicks will be wheaten/blue wheaten but from what im reading you have a chance of getting splash wheatens also from breeding.. how can i breed these to only produce wheaten/blue wheaten? (such as wheaten roo to blue wheaten hens) vise versa.. thanks in advance!!!

I haven't posted in a long while (not that I ever posted frequently). My Marans have been set on the back burner the last few years as I have been dealing with school and my job. I'm finally at a point where I can put a little more focus on my birds again. Unfortunately my flock has mostly aged out and I was only able to hatch 3 chicks this spring (1 cockerel and 2 pullets).

I want to look into getting more hatching eggs or birds this spring. I was wondering if any one here was a part of the Marans Chicken Club, USA or the Marans of America Club and could give any insight as to wether or not they would be worth joining and if one was better to join for some one living in the western US or not.

Or maybe if any one else knows a reliable source for eggs.

So the top two photos are my founding cock. The bottom two are of his great(?) grandson. I haven’t done the best job being an active breeder so I haven’t kept track like I should have. Anyways it’s not the most accurate comparison because grandpa is 1-1 1/2 in his photos and the cockerel is 4 months old in his pictures.

I do think he is an improvement on his grandpa but time will tell how big of an improvement he is.

Here are a few photos of my trio at 5 months. Both of the girls are lacking in the feathered leg department. The dark chested one has one or two feather on her shanks is all. The light chested has feathered shanks but her toes do not have feathering. The boy filling out nicely he was being a goober and wouldn’t pose naturally for me so he looks a little odd. I did notice some white on his right wing but he hasn’t gone through his adult molt yet so hopefully it molts out.

Here are a few photos of my my older hens. I’d like to breed my cockerel back to them so I can avoid bringing in new blood already. I’m hoping they still have enough eggs in them to get a few chicks out of that cross.
