Wheaten and Blue wheaten Marans Discussion Thread

He does have lighter colored legs
(Snowbird or anyone else w/this info/knowledge) Could someone post pics showing difference in Blue Marans And Blue Copper Marans (male & female) ? I just can't wrap my brain around the difference in the two ......

Hi everyone,
I'm sorry to cut into the conversation but I'm very concerned about my wheaten marans chicks and I'd like to consult those with more wheaten marans knowledge. I purchased some wheaten chicks one week old and younger, and now both cockerels have died when each reached the two week mark on the dot. They act a little sleepy and sluggish and all of the sudden pass. I've ruled out the most common causes of chick deaths, but after speaking to a gentleman about his Ameraucana breeding program, I'm starting to question if my newly bought chicks could have some poor hereditary traits due to limited bloodlines. Has anyone else experienced this with their wheatens and should I be concerned about my three pullets still alive? Thank you for any advice, info.

I've been reading the same group of 10 or 15 birdsin a closed flockfor close to eight years

I agree with Randy, selecting the best for future breeders is the key to a healthy flock. Highly inbred chickens would most likely exhibit defects such as poor weight gain, failing egg production, declining hatch rates, loss of feather color, structural deformities.

I'm thinking #3 a roo. Hoping 1&2 are pullets. ???
