Wheaten and Blue wheaten Marans Discussion Thread

Pics
Would be helpful to all if we could get some good pics of people's hens. A nice profile and a "looking down" onto their backs shots would be very helpful, at least to me!

I think manys a time we worry the roos to death, but there seems to be far too little on the hens; and I'm not just talking about this variety, or breed for that matter. Let's not forget, the girls contribute as much as the boys!

Debbie, remember the girls have way less faults even with chickens. Don

Very true...even with chickens!

Wow! I did not even know of this thread, I am thrilled it's here.

I am planning on getting a dozen Wheaten Marans eggs from bargain, and keeping two pullets (neighbor wants some, too). I'm setting 100 eggs soon, and plan to hatch these after that one. They will be penned with some other assorted breeds (Silkies, many Delawares, a White Rock, BR and EE). I am thrilled! I haven't had Marans before, and am very excited about the chocolate-red eggs. I run an egg business and hope to sell a special color dozen- six Ameraucana eggs and six Wheaten Marans eggs. The Ameraucanas (5-7 of them) will be penned right next to them.

We're doing a lot of expanding around here, and this should be another great breed journey, I hope. I will certainly be keeping up with this thread.

Hi all, Just an observation on the wheaten females. Does anyone notice that with the darker wheaten back female the botton half of the bird will not be a nice even cream color and will show more of a light wheaten color ? Will try and get some pictures this weekend of the tail feathers and wing. I built the light box to take pictures in and have only used it one time. Don

Well, I can't seem to upload anything now, but go to BYC member bargain's topics and click "12+ Wheaten Marans hatching eggs". There are photos there.
