Randy, I added the Blue wheaten because I thought it would ad more comments to the thread. There is no way they will let us have a thread for each variety.

Randy there are many of us that read this thread I have Wheatens in the oven again hoping that the postal service hasn't fixed me up again.....I think Blue Wheatens are very pretty in the pictures I've seen but for now I'm just going to try and have some Wheatens I love the size and shape of the eggs I have now if a few will hatch. I wish you were closer I think your culls are pretty nice....

My Blue Wheaten boy (covering all my Wheatie girls - Sadly my only Blue Wheatie girl died. She was gorgeous, and went broody instantly after laying her first several eggs, but, I didn't get a single egg - She went broody off in the back of the pasture in a burn pile, then got taken away one rainy night) He's a nice guy, but the future generations will certainly have less white fluff, more breast, and less "color" in the chest. (orange) He's not as broad as my best Black Copper (recently passed away

) but I think his long, tall body is what makes him appear thinner. I've got a hen for that though!

Hi Illia,
Thanks for re-posting pictures of your blue wheaten rooster.
So, what do you get using a blue wheaten on a wheaten hen? Which is dominate?
Thanks,
Joe

It works the same as blue and black.

Blue x Black = 50% blue 50% black

Blue is dominant, however blue as a color is only one allele for the blue gene. Splash is homozygous though, having both. Splash x black = 100% blue. Otherwise, blue and black = 50/50.

So, same goes with Wheatens. And Blue Wheaten x Blue Wheaten = 50% blue wheaten, 25% normal or splash wheaten.
