I believe it was from my Wheaten Marans, who's name is Frenchie.

I like her type.

Walt

She's quite fluffy in the back, she walks around almost like she's wearing a full diaper all the time.

well i just started my slow slow proscess of test breeding , some nice people droped off a nice yellow leg wyandotte rooster . he is on loan for several months wile i go threw this . i have alot of hens to work with and most should be free of yellow ... il wait 2 weeks befor collecting hatching test wyandott/wheaten marans eggs .... but i have hatched the last of the eggs from my flock and i have many young and i noticed 2 roo with yellow legs , so that makes it 2 henschicks with yellow and 2 roochicks with yellow shanks and toes , so i have a silly question i already know the answer i think i was going to save them for test breeding , so i can use the yellow leg wheaten marans roo chick to test breed like the wyanedott to my hens in question ????
correct ???? and so in the same way to check white shank roosters with a yellow leg hen ?

Yes. You can keep a roo and a hen with yellow legs for that reason, but Randy the point is to clean out the hidden yellow in your flock so you don't have to check again, EVER, especially if you keep your flock closed. But if you plan to bring new birds in, it's not a bad idea to keep one, though it's probably cheaper to borrow one.

By the time these roos grow to maturity, you should be done cleaning house, and you shouldn't have yellow come up ever again. But if you sleep better knowing you've checked 'em all, then, yes, they will work like your wyandotte loaner.

thanks vc , i figure 2 weeks to clean hen of old davis roo or other roo and breeding barrowed roo a week to gather eggs , thats 3 weeks and than 3 weeks to hatch test eggs and if she comes out clean 3 weeks after to get to hatching yellow free legs.
and than repete with 7 to 10 hens , by next week i will be able to seperate the big davis roo from all the hens , i have 4 coops and still i need more

Hi everyone,

This chick is a couple days over 3 weeks now. Is there any way this is not a cockerel? It's looked pretty dark like this for more than a week so I figured it was but it's the only 1 that I have so nothing to compare to... Camera battery died, this was the only pic I got. It is dark all the way to the end, has almost no tail yet though.

Thanks
