Wheaten and Blue wheaten Marans Discussion Thread

Ok, babykins is only 6 days old today, but here is a pic. Does anyone else see pullet?? Since it's wing feathers are just starting, I am going by the tail coming in. On all of my BCMs, the tail comes in much sooner on the pullets. Any guesses??

While we're on the subject, I have a question about one of mine. She was just as brown as the other females, and not showing any black in her feathers until this week (into her 4th week I think). I'm seeing a pattern that looks a suspiciously a lot like my 5 week old roo.
Do I have a male that was disguising himself? There isn't any crest or anything, just the unusual darker pattern that's unlike the other girls.

They both look like pullets to me! (Debbi's and Bangarang's)
My humble opinion though...

Bangarang ~ I'd say that's a pullet. They are supposed to have some black in the wings and tail. At 4 weeks, the bird would be showing more comb and wattles if it were a roo. Since this is my first Wheaten, I have no experience as to how they feather in, but that comb says to me, pullet.

Thanks Cuckoo! I'm hoping for pullet with mine!

it's too early for me to tell debbie but I say hen. i think hems/ chicks feather in more rounded roos are pointed but if i had to guess pullet and yes my roos are 3 months old and i c one that moght be ok to keep but i wont know for two more months. and bangar id say hen for sure but pullets go threw a ugly teen age stage ant often get to looking lile a cockrel.

Thanks you guys! I really appreciate the help.
Hey Randy, I'll upload a few pictures of my Rooster when I get home. I'd love to get your opinion on how he's coming along.
