Wheaten and Blue wheaten Marans Discussion Thread

Not sure that would be a good scenario! Those things are pretty tough, the males out here I would guess, come close to 40lbs. I'm pretty sure my 9mm with some hollow points would do the trick...if I could catch them while I had the pistol on me! They are quite fast!

Was on my leg lol, got the marks to prove it. I've taken out whistle pigs with it before. Bothers neighbors less than the shotgun. Shotgun can get dicey if the dogs won't out. Let me know when you've got chicks again. :) looking forward to driving out. I like it up there.

I'll post the pictures of the girls I kept here. What do you guys think are they too dark? Or just too young? Lots of pin feathers still on them, as I held the one, she kind of reminds me of a hedgehog, lol. Sorry about the picture quality, difficult to get pics of them when they get all frantic from the scary camera.

Actually that last one there is the darkest (left front). She looks quite a bit like the one I sold to a lady in town (the one I thought might have been a roo by the black coming in- though now I'm sure it wasn't). There are two sort of 'looks' here with the girls, most look like the one who's feet I held, but there are two or three like the one with the black speckles in wing.

See anything that might be helpful to know?

Here are a couple more from last week. Don't mind the purple stuff. A few were feather picking before I separated boys from girls so they'd have lots more room. Also there is little blue splash maran cockerel in there with the gals. I hatched 3 of them and I'm pretty sure they're all boys, lol. Just my luck. One of the wheaten cockerels in the last pictures. This little guy is crowing already!

hens appear to have lost their tri color and the last rooster appears to be missing the cinnamon win triangle

Thanks for the input! I had to go back several pages here and find some pictures to see what you mean about the rooster, but I can see it now. Time to get out and examine the others for the same. Thanks!

Hey guys I think that I may have unknowingly inherited a Marans chick. I ordered 15 Blue laced Red Wynadotte chicks that I have had for about 3 weeks now, but one of them is for sure not a BLRW. I think that it may be a Marans due to the feathered legs. I uploaded an album under my profile with todays date 07/15/2012. There is about 5 or 6 pictures of the chick in question on there. Since you all are the Marans experts would you mind to take a look and tell me if you think that is what I have. I think that the person I purchased my chicks from also raises French blues and Black Coppers and may have included one by mistake. If you think that is what it is could you tell me what color it may be? Thanks for your help on the Wheaten Marans the other week. I was able to find some eggs from the Cottage hill line coming to me from Georgia. Pardon the pictures they aren't the greatest some of the feathers on him/her???? were wet and the pictures don't do justice to how cute the chick is.
