It's great you get the chance to experiment with genetics. My dream project would be trying to recreate breeds that don't exist in NZ with existing genetics available. Too bad I'm city-bound and can't start any projects of my own. Biosecurity processes here are so restrictive that heritage breeders are priced out of importing. I think a few looked into it but weren't able to saddle the costs.

I understand, some places are very strict when it involves animals. Michigan has some of the most strict animal laws in the U.S.
