Wheaten Marans/BLR Wyandottes Incubating Blog

This is my first time with the incubator and I was trying to figure the best way to get the eggs in. I tried using the plastic rails but I just could not figure out how I should postition the eggs on there sides and how much pressure was acceptable to put on the eggs..... So I thought I would just put them in the plastic egg carton I had and use that to hold them in the incubator. I'm not sure if this is a good idea or a good position to have the eggs in........

Here are pics of the eggs in the incubator. If this is wrong, please pipe up fast as this is day 0 of the hatch and I would hate to have them in wrong at this early stage.

Again, don't be shy. If this is a bad idea, let me know. The carton is plastic and the eggs don't fall out as it auto tilts the full 90 degrees but they are not tight in those little cups......

I'm afraid I can't help, but I am glad you are posting this. There are lots of experienced folks here who will hopefully chime in soon to answer your questions, and I am interested to follow along and learn with you.

Good luck!

I am on my first hatch so take my oppinion with a grain of salt, but I think it looks good. Maybe the bump will get an experienced hatcher on to confirm or deny

I have only hatched a couple of times but one thing that I would watch for is water in the plastic carton. I have only used cardboard cartons and I cut the bottom out for circulation. If you get condensation, you don't want it to pool in the carton.

Love your incubator....I want one like that! I will be watching your hatch. Good luck!

Thanks for the input

I am biased but I think he is cute most of the time as well and he is VERY excited...

I was kind of worried about pooling water at the bottom of them as well but this system does not seem to steam up at all with the fan and humidity control. I had left it running empty and it had no condensation at all.

I will keep my eye out over the week end to see how it looks.
