I have 5 wheaten marans that have shoulder feathers coming in. I would like your thoughts on what they are. I know it’s early and will wait till chest feathers or red comb come in early to verify. Also have a black copper maran. I know you can’t really tell much this young but wasn’t sure if the comb would give a clue on the black copper. (2wks old). If you know of anyone with experience with the “Wheaten” color pattern sexing please tag them.🐣

I think A and B could be cockerels, the rest pullets. But you have to be careful because some strains of Faverolles have very dark pullets, so it is not a 100% bet that you can tell by shoulder/wing feathers this early.

There's nothing in the BCM's comb that says cockerel at this point, but it is still very early in the game. The males do tend to get their larger combs early in this breed, so probably by 5 or 6 weeks you will have a good idea of what is going on.
