I got these two sweet girls from a breeder today advertised S Wheaton Marans. Feels like a setup now because they got loose and I had to catch them so I didn't notice their legs until I got home. What are They?

I can't see much from a back view.

They could be Wheaten Marans, but poorly colored. The legs should be white/pink not blue/grey. Or were you expecting leg feathering?

French style Marans have leg feathers down the outside of the leg all the way down the outside toe.

American style Marans have no leg feathers.

So if the concern was leg feathering, then these would be American style.

However the leg color is off for Wheaten Marans. The other colors of Marans do have a grey/slate colored leg.

As to verifying anything else, a full profile shot would be necessary.

Found my answer..
How can I get rid of blue shanks in my birds?

The gene for blue shanks is recessive and sex linked which means the father can give it to both his daughters and sons but the mother can only give it to her son. If you cross a male with blue shanks to a female with white shanks all the daughters will have blue shanks and the sons will carry one set of genes for white shanks and one set of genes for blue shanks. If you then cross the son to the mother you will get some chicks that have white shanks...
