We have just isolated an 8 month Barred rock hen who hase been acting poorly lately, She has been just standing around, usually beside the water dish with her beak slightly open and gasping as she breathes in. seems to be wheezing and every so often will cough or sneeze.
Obviously from what I have seen online here it appears to be a respiratory issue.Just not sure of the end result? many different diagnoses but not a lot of information on whether the infected bird survives.
Looks like most information the medicine or treatment starts but then no follow-up
As I take each item,
8 mos old, normal weight, not losing weight over last week
has been worse last two days, but noticed a slight cough about a week ago
no limping, bleeding or broken parts, no obvious discharge -nasal
none of the others are acting sick
she breathes and stretches from her beak to her vent
rear end shows runny poop, slightly yellowish
Had been eating layer as well as scratch treats and kitchen leftover greens ( Strawberry, romaine lettce, watermelon rind etc)
just noticed today does not seem to be eating,(18% Layer) but wlll drink from time to time
have just isolated her so have to wait to see if she is stil laying
will call a vet regarding antibiotics if I can find one familiar with avairy medicine (unless a good old fashioned remedy pops up)
Thanks in advance
