The Science Of Feeding Grit To Poultry
Hi taffers,
I see you are a lawyer and used to getting the facts about subjects.
There is definitely a science to feeding grit to poultry. Simple,
scientifically proven, with predictable results. Feeding grit to poultry
is all about the sharp edges that do not round off in the acidity of the
gizzard, insolubility which keeps the edges sharp and the size proper,
right level of magnesium to prevent injury to chicks, and feeding the
right size at the right age so it stays in the gizzard (among other things).
Here is a write up I did on the subject last month.

For quick further study, and the source of most all my references, that
little Bibliography is a treasure. It contains abstracts for all the cites.
A real Cliff Notes on the subject of grit for poultry. I get my grits from
Gran-I-Grit at about 5.60 for 50 lbs of chick grit to 10.00 for 50 lbs. of
either of the 2 larger sizes of grit.
