When did chickens become exotic pets?

You can take an animal just about anywhere you want. As long as it is a service animal. It could be a dog, cat, chicken, rat, snake or any pet. At least here you can. Service animal covers a lot of ground. Many reasons according to a doctor I know that people can use just about any creature as a service animal.

not entirely true. Under Federal Law, a service animal can ONLY be a dog. Plus, must be trained to do at least 2 tasks to ease the person's disability. The only difference that Idaho allows is that they allow public access to dogs that are still in training.
Most businesses err on the side of caution and don't push the issue.

This must be something new for Petsmart. When I worked there from 1996 - 2000, there was even a part in the quarterly newsletter for the most "unusual" type of animal that was brought into the store. I remember a baby elephant in CA. We usually had various snakes, iguanas, parrots, some rabbits and of course dogs and cats. There was one woman who'd always bring in her two macaws, one on each shoulder...

Are you serious? I'm LOLing my butt off at the "born in a petri dish at MIT." Where did you get this oh so helpful information? I'm sure all the bird breeders who worked their butts off breeding for color in the bird species would be happy to hear that all their hard work was "born in a petri dish at MIT."

What are you saying, they are not born in a dish?

My whole tongue-in-cheek satire is that Petsmart are calling chickens exotic but sell animals that are well, exotic. If I got you laughing my day was made because I wake every morn set to make at least one person laugh. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.

What do service animals have to do with chickens? o__O

Anyhoo the lady at the HQ hasn't called me back yet. Doesn't matter anyways, if I ever have a chicken with me and I go there I will leave once I am done shopping. I still don't see chickens as exotic but then again I do. I mean to the person who hasn't seen a chicken except in a happy meal, sure any chicken is exotic to them. To me they're more common than the sky I see outside.
I suppose it just depends on each person. This Petsmart could have been more chill with it though, all the female employees didn't care but the male ones were "!!?! hey hey those can't be in here" and mom goes "then dogs can't be in here!" ... I wanted to punch the manager in the face for laughing at my mom's arguement. Dad said I should have spit on his shoe, he says that's the formal way of showing ... I don't know what the word is called. Disgust? I really forgot what my dad said. I think disgust.

Maybe I should have sneezed or coughed on the manager. I've noticed that sneezing has become the "ew nasty get away from me" thing over the years.
