OMG I can't believe it! We are brand new at chicken keeping, have had the girls (only 2 from original 3 left) for 30 weeks (!!) and we got our first egg on Christmas morning. Truly, it is a Christmas miracle! Couldn't couldn't believe it! Here's proof:
Our first egg. So proud!

Premier egg in situ. Very exciting.

Who's a good chicken? (I'm pretty sure it is Charlotte, the Australorp)

And then there was ANOTHER egg in the nest box today! Can't believe it! They work! They really work! Yay!!!

the marans egg is the dark one in the middle all the other eggs are Rhode island red eggs

will the eggs get darker with time ???
i know they get bigger in size but what about the color ??

My chicks hatched may 3rd and we just got our first white egg 4 days ago.. 7 1/2 months old! ..the 7 brown egg layers are producing between 5-6 eggs a day but only one of the 5 white egg layers started (2 pheonix,1 buttercup,1 modern game, 1 campine).. I really think the delay is caused by the season and breed. The redsexlinks, white rocks, and new Hampshire red don't seem to mind the winter.

I bought my BR off my niece and am not sure how old she is but she came laying. My RIR's I got as chicks and they started laying around 8 months.

haha BCM are great birds they are very gentle my Rhode island red flock are cannibals i once added 3 young pullets to the flock one was eaten alive and the other two were severely wounded only one survived it was horrifying when i went into the coop to get the pullets out they tried to snatch them from my hands so i moved the pullet with the BCM they didn't even pick on her the female keep chasing her but never picks her i just love this breed !!!!
