When do Barr Rocks start laying?

I started out with 25 BR pullets, and all except 1 started laying between 6 and 7 months of age. The exception was precocious and laid her first egg at 20 weeks ... ironically, she later became my least reliable hen, only laying about 2 or 3 a week. Needless to say, when I thinned out the BRs to make room for some new breeds, she went to live elsewhere (and yes, I told the new owner why I was getting rid of her, but she wanted chickens for bug patrol).

We put a round steel feeding dish out in the run with shallow water and a few ice cubes to keep it cool. They LOVE to wade in that when it gets hot, and some sit down in it for awhile. We also have a mister on a simple timer that goes on for 10 minutes every hour when it is hot to cool them down without soaking the area. We dump their water if it gets hot and replace with fresh water. Ice in their water is also a good thing. When it gets really hot, we feed them frozen treats like berries or peas. I've also chopped up veggies and frozen them with water in pie tins for the girls. I tried freezing pop bottles full of water, but they end up poopy by the end of the day.

Those are some really great tips classic! Thanks! I have been freezing strawberries, blueberries, and cantaloupe for them...guess I need to get them some ice in their water too! Thanks again!

Our Barred Rock, Rose, had her first egg at 19 weeks, 4 days...not that we were counting.

Aww that's sweet! I would love to rescue some chickens in my area, but, I'm not even sure that they have that here? Guess I'll just keep my fingers crossed and hope that they will start laying sometime soon!
