I can't wait! My 3 EE's are now 12 weeks old. I've read that egg laying begins roughly between 16-20 weeks, but I heard can take up to a year! I don't know if different breeds start laying at different times, but typically with EE's, what is the average time they start laying?

Anxious to see the first colored eggs!

OKAY! Mine are 21 weeks today...that means any day right?

I would say to watch for squatting. Mine had red faces for at least a month before they started to lay. By the way, they were between 30 - 32 weeks before they started. When they started squatting it was about a week before they laid an egg.

I have 3 EE's and they are 22 weeks old. One just started laying on Sunday and I got one yesterday. I have 15 hens all the same age and only have a couplelaying so far! I say, "A watched chicken never lays!" It will happen soon. Here is my blue egg!

CONGRATS to the first eggers!

Im guessing because EEs are the mutts ( I love mutts and surprises) of the chicken world, how soon they lay is dependant on their genes, where they from.
Mine are from Cackle, they're 17 weeks. At least another month. Where did everyone else get their chicks?

Congratulations to all those first-time eggs! Hey! I got mine from mypetchicken and let me tell you, it's been a horrible experience. They were supposed to send me 3, but I received 5 instead (first mistake). Then, I found out that I have one with a crooked beak (He is so bad now, that I may have to put him down). Yes, He's a HE! Wait! There's more! Now, my crooked beak is a Rooster! So, then another chicken (wait, no, he's a Rooster) was trying to kill my crooked beak! Thank God I was home at the time because if I wasn't he would have killed my crooked beak (he was bloody when I found him, with severe pecks ot his face). Ok, so I got rid of the little Rooster trouble maker. NOW TODAY! I am almost sure that the 3rd one is s Rooster, too!

I ordered 3 females, and I got 3 roosters, and 2 females. I called mypetchicken a few times and have complained. All they have done was apologize and refund me for shipping and 2 birds (due to the mistake in sending me 5 instead of 3).

Does anyone live in the SoCal area and wants a Rooster? He is pretty, white with a few brown feathers.
