When do eggs internally pip?

ok

ok, my eggs are silkie, frizzle and americauno mixes if i spelt that right. Im young, in my teens and i couldnt afford my own incubator, i borrowed from my dads friend. I guess i probably should have checked the thermometer before tho. lol

When you haven't incubated before it's hard to know that checking temperature with a calibrated thermometer is a good thing to do. I just wish the thermometers on incubators tended to me more accurate. Incubator instructions often get people into trouble as well, they often suggest a humidity from days 1-18 that end up being too high and can cause issues at hatch.

I never blame those new to hatching for trusting the incubators. It's only when there is a problem that you learn that the incubators might not always be trustworthy.

I did lots of research, i read the instructions just to make sure but i went more off of what i knew, i started off with 12 eggs, 3 were infertile and 2 died, which leaves me with 6 so i hope for a good hatch. I've learned a lot in these past 20 days, but if i do incubate more eggs in the future (probably will) then at least now i could do a bit better.

6 out of 8 fertile eggs is very good, I hope you get a great hatch out of the 6! :)

It definitely takes a bit to find exactly what works for you but the fact that you did your research before attempting is admirable and gives you a leg up!

Thank you

how can i raise the humidity?
could i quickly open it and add a wet sponge?

I use a seperate incubator for lockdown. To give the chicks more of a stable floor, I'll put paper towels on it and keep the res filled. If I need more humidity, I'll open it up quickly and spritz the paper towel. This way, you dont have to worry about misting the eggs causing issues.
