When do frizzles look frizzled

Topic says it all. I have 10 day old red frizzles I ordered. None of their wing feathers look frizzled at all yet. Not only that but they all have large combs compared to my other cochins. What do you want to bet I got 4 unfrizzled roos?

You should be able to tell by now if they have wing feathers coming in. At 10 days old they should have a bit of length to their wing feathers that will show an upwards curl.

This chick is 5 days old, see how the feathers have started to turn up. Thats how I could tell it was going to be a frizzle.

I have several Frizzle chicks and some frizzle more than others a little quicker, the white ones frizzle a lot early so the reds, the blacks not so much. Love those frizzle chicks!! I'll post some pics later today.

By the way, if you're intending on breeding the frizzles, you will want to have some "non frizzled" frizzles to breed your frizzles with. Frizzle X Frizzle is not such a good outcome (Meet Tiny Tim ). Frizzle X Non-Frizzle is GREAT!

Yes, I love my smooth Sizzles, they mean I can continue the breeding without worrying about babies like Tiny Tim, aka Frazzles. Out of all my sizzle babies right now a five week old smooth is the most sweet pet bird, always wants to sit on momma, and kind to any babies we've introduced to the brooder that are younger. Sizzles and Frizzles just rock.

I have a young frizzle/silkie as well that is just as sweet as can be. Feathers didn't frizzle, but they don't lay tight to the body either -- looks more like she's always got her feathers ruffled, but doesn't. So cute! And they're just as soft as can be!!

Oh, and for what it's worth, Tiny Tim was a hatchery chick I got last summer. Out of the six frizzles I received, Tiny Tim seems to be the only Frazzle. I also got one gal that didn't frizzle, and she's just a beauty. All the others frizzled wonderfully!

Edited to add: I recently hatched a few Frizzle X's and had wonderful results! The Frizzle/Silkie mentioned above, along with a Frizzle/Polish, and another frizzle/silkie that DID frizzle! YAY!!

I have no intentions of breeding or I would probably spend the money on show stock. I live in the suburbs and can have 6 chickens, though I intend to keep 8 because bantams are half the size of a normal chicken so really its like having 4 chickens. Anywho, I just like frizzles, so I bought 4 frizzle chicks, hoping to get one frizzle hen out of it. I don't think I will be so lucky. I would have bought from people here but all y chickens are little still, and I don't have an incubator and noone really seems to sell chicks. One chick might get a slight frizzle to it. I think I see a feather or two not lying down all smooth (wishful thinking).
