My Buff Orpingtons are 18 weeks old today and have not seen my first egg. They all seem healthy. Is there anything extra I should be doing or looking out for as far as getting them to give me some DARN EGGS!!!!!!!!!!!

As long as you are offering good quality food, oyster shells, clean, fresh water, and a clean place to live, you just gotta wait. They don't all start to lay when the charts say they should, maddening as that may be. Orpingtons may be a bit slower to mature; can't remember off hand. Be patient. They WILL come.

My BO didn't lay until they were 27 and 28 weeks old. I was so concerned because they weren't laying because I had read soooooo many post about that they started to lay at 18, 20 weeks old.. It will seem like they are never gonna lay but they will and it will be wonderful when they do..

Hang in there.. they will make you VERY proud soon enough! Mine were about 5 1/2 months. How about a cheer for your ladies for encouragement ... (taking last sip of coffee .. clearing throat)

okay. hehehe here goes..

Ready... okay.

Two bits four bits six bits a dollar .. All cheering for the little orps.. stand up and hollar!!! Yeahhhhh! Go little orps.. you can do it!

(big smile)

Hey.. don't look at me like that you guys.. I will not apologize for catching the chicken bug. Cocka doodle dooo! XOXOX

The wait will be worth it, I swear! My blue orp lays HUGE eggs! I swear, they are seriously like XXL. When I try to put them in the 'large' egg cartons, I cannot shut the lid.
