When do you jump in and help a chick hatch... chick ripped intestines and bowel out of body.

had one born that ripped her intestines and bowel right out of her body getting out of her shell. ugh.. she is still alive in the incubator crying.... Argh!!!!!

she was crying loudly in the shell while trying to get out... she pipped all day yesterday with no cracks....... how long shall I let them pip in the shell? How long do you let a chick try and get out on it's own after it has broken through the shell just a bit and you can hear it pipping all day til the pip gets weaker?
I know you are not supposed to help a chick from the shell.... is it better not to and take the risk that happened to this one or is the risk of helping some greater?

Thanks P

I've heard of chicks hatching before all the yolk is absorbed. It's possible that is what you have. I've never had it happen but I think I remember that if you wait, they can absorb it and still be OK.

Oh, and don't try to help them out of the shell. They may still have exposed blood vessels and unabsorbed yolk. It's the last thing that happens before they come out. I think as long as they have pipped and can get oxygen they will keep trying. Sometimes they rest a long time between attempts.

oh know..... no mistake the long coiled links of intestines hanging from the belly and a huge ball of fluid sac about the size of a large gumball full of green bile it is leaking.... ugh... makes me so ill that this baby is in such discomfort... tried to push the intesines back in and ruptured the sac.. it appeared to be his stomach or bowels..... poor baby.... I am thinking egg yolk was stuck to intestines.. and he just wanted out no matter what..... if I had helped him and knew he was stuck I could have wet the inside of the shell with a warm cotton ball to unstick him....

I guess there is no getting away from the could haves and should haves when it comes to something gone wrong..

I did have a great hatch though for sent eggs.... ebay eggs no less..... these particular lavender orpington eggs, hatched out 6 from this breeder since yesterday ..they are still hatching the last of them I am going to help with in the event any others are stuck... I hope it is not going to cause other problems..... helping them that is.. since the hatch started yesterday..

so sad because this little guy is walking all around with his intestines hanging so far out of his belly he can step on them....

gall bladder at least in humans.... is tiny.... the size of the ball that was attached to his intestines full of bright green antifreeze looking fluid and other stuff... looked like a ovarian cyst in a human..... sorry for the graphic description... but that is what it looked like.... intestines.... way out of the body and yes still alive....
