When Should We Have More Than the Minimums for Space?

Weather. My girls were cooped up in the coop/run for days while they scrutinized the snow outside the run. I don't have a big coop or run; they have the yard, I figured. I never thought they wouldn't want to (or be able to -- we had almost 2 feet of the white stuff) get out due to snow.

After starting with a prefab, I definitely think more is better! My ladies have 25sqft of space each in the run and 9sqft of space each in the new coop. The extra space has made the integration of my littles easy breezy! As far as cleaning and maintenance go, I'm OCD and do it regardless, lol, but that's just me

When I worked appliance customer service, we were taught to use a basketball to visualize a cubic foot.

That's an excellent idea!

I don't know if we've got a basketball, but anyone could visualize it and it would go well with the line about chickens not stacking for storage. :D

Didn't you figure a 15" cube for representing a chicken space @3KillerBs ?

Something like that -- the physical size of a chicken and a little room for personal space. It came to mind when DH was playing Minecraft.

My SIL has some fabric storage cubes that I might borrow to use for photos.

The current East Coast US Avian Flu thing has made me VERY glad to have my over-sized, Open Air coop. I was easily able to shut them up and they're doing fine -- not as happy as when they have access to their run, but fine nonetheless.
