When there isn't money for nursery plants, where do you get your plants from instead?

I am not sure if azaleas have similar propagation rules as rhododendrons but we had success rooting rhodie cuttings in a propagation box that was built with a rubber pond liner in a wood box with a glass top. The cuttings were placed in a medium that was quite sandy in texture. New tip growth was taken in the fall, sliced at a sharp angle, dipped in rooting hormone and put in the box and left until the following fall. Worked pretty well for us. The glass top was opened about an inch during the summer months but closed the rest of the time and the condensation was pretty much all the watering that the plants got.
I’ll have to try something like that.

Hey, I was just out in my garden where my Crocosmia is EVERYWHERE, and I thought to myself "Self, this would be a great plant to add to the list of potentially free additions to Marmalade25's garden!" I love my Crocosmia but boy, it comes up like topsy every year. Super plant for the back of a sunny border. Excellent foliage and flowers, doesn't get much better than that. Or, actually, the shorter orange/yellow varieties are great for the mid/front of the border too!!

Oh, and forgot to mention that Crocosmia grows from bulbs, or corms actually, that are very easily dug up and divided. If you know of anyone with any, they would surely let you have some. Shoot if you were closer, I would give you bagfulls of them!. Where are you located anyway @Marmalade25? It seems all very well to be recommending these things but maybe they are not good for your location.

Lol!! I can be elusive sometimes. I am zone 6b on the east coast. Actually I seem to be able to grow all the same things that Lazy Gardener has had success with. Good ole' New England. I think my climate is the most similar to her's.
I had to look up crocosmia, but I have seen it, I just can't remember if it was when I was a few zones south of this or not, lol. Beautiful!
Right now I feel like the yard is getting messier rather than prettier, but I love the idea of creating unique beauty on my little corner lot. I know I will never have a pristine yard so I may as well shoot for interesting. Lol!
