I was gifted 20 guinea eggs Friday, they range from 2-14 days old. What day should I candle to see if they are actually fertile/viable?

Guinea egg shells are thick and can be difficult to see into unless you have a very strong and focused light to candle with. I don't candle my guinea eggs until day 25 when I move them from the incubator to the hatcher.

You should be able to see something by day 10 or day 14 of incubation.

Yes the dark orange spot is the yolk.

If you have access to some of the foam pipe insulation, you can cut it to fit over the end of your flashlight. Place the big end of the egg against the foam which will direct all of the light into the egg.

Adapting a flashlight as a candler
