So i have hatched around 30 quail chicks who have now reached the ripe young age of 5 weeks ! When would be a good time to start sexing them and grouping them up in breeder pens ? So far i have 3-4 males crowing but apart from that i haven't noticed any fighting or other breeding behaviour apart from during a feeding frenzy when they occasionally peck at each other to get to the front of the feeder.

Now is the time you will want to start sorting out your males, the fights will often start around this age, so removing extras as you find them helps to cut down on issues in the group.
