When/where do I start checking for eggs?

This may be a really dumb question, but when and where should I start checking for eggs? Right now, my hens are 3 months old (3 Ameraucanas, 3 white Leghorns), and they refuse to go in the coop (working on that one!). I go out and feed/water them, but when should I really start checking for eggs? Will it be obvious when they start laying?

first lock them up in the coop for couple of days. feed n water them in the coop. i start get a egg from my leghorn around 16 weeks after i put her in the nest box. i dont known about the other breed

I would agree with the previous post. Also I would suggest adding a few fake eggs (we used golf balls) to the nesting boxes.

When they are getting ready to start laying, their combs and wattles will get redder. You may also notice they squat when you go to pet their backs. They look for a comfy, secluded space to lay so I would look under and behind things for nests. At 3 months they are young yet, you should have have over a month to go, but look for the signs because every pullet is different.

The tips are great -- thank you! I will attempt to lock them in tonight and feed/water them in the coop. We'll see how this goes! I haven't handled them a lot, so I'm a little scared to grab them when they start flapping their wings. LOL
