Sorry to press a point but this is also untrue. We have two unfixed males and an unfixed female. We just separate them when shes in heat. It is entirely possible to ethically have animals in all sorts of situations.

Well you’re right. Once again I haven’t made myself very clear. Keeping unfixed animals can be done, but I don’t personally want to run the risk of accidentally letting them breed. It’s ok to keep them, but people like Jades neighbor do not seem like responsible owners like you

I have been lurking on this thread for awhile and I feel like most info provided has been good advice. I just wanted to add that just because she spent a few hours at your house OP, does not mean the puppies are dead or starving. By my calculations, they are over a month old, correct? They are probably not feeding from mom much anymore, if at all. So if you check mom dog, she probably won't have milk. The owners are probably giving the puppies dog food soaked in either water or some form of milk. Either mom's milk or goat's milk. Considering, I highly doubt they are milking mom dog, I bet its goats milk or water. Both are perfectly acceptable to use on puppies. They will be completely weaned onto dry dog food soon. Mom can spend hours away from them and they will be fine

I think we may ultimately fix all of them. Its a mom and 2 sons and we arent thrilled with the genetics she passed down. The dad is perfect. He passed away but we have his stuff saved if we want to do AI, but wed have to find a new mom, and its expensive because it's not just letting dogs be dogs; there are specialistics involved and whatnot.

Exactly. Trust me, I have breastfed my son. After 4 months, I was done. And he didn't even have teeth yet! Puppies plus lots of sharp puppy teeth equals weaned puppies soon

Well around here people barely do research and some probably won’t even care.
