Wondering if that’s just the photo/gold pattern? I haven’t noticed any suspicious feathering back there. The gold comes to a point but the black border seems round to me.

Yep. As Shabby Chic-Hens said. In that photo the saddle feathers look sharp and elongated. I'm pulling for you for a pullet, but I started out calling my polish Lucille, and ended up calling him Lucian. sigh...I still love him tho'
