Where are your storing your supplies?

We have some big critters here, but even if you don't, feed can bring them on, and even mice can eventually chew through a plastic can. BTW...the galvanized cans I looked at were cheaper than the plastic ones.

Good call. I have seen $10 plastic cans and $30 galvanized ones. I will keep an eye out for cheaper galvanized cans.

Do those chickens know you keep the feed in there? I see the one on the back left eyeing the can. Looks like she may be planning a break-in!

Haa, They know it's in there, but I think the lack of opposable thumbs throws a wrench in any plans they may have.

You could either put it in the coop, if you have room, or stack on the ground and wrap it in tarps.

Since I'm doing ducks, there will be little more than a large enclosure, and a small house for them to go into if they so desire (which apparently they rarely do), so there won't be room in the coop, but I hadn't thought of something as simple as a tarp!

Another thing you could do, which I am thinking about doing this Spring, is to build a wooden box against 1 side of the coop with a slanted cover on hinges....like an outside nesting box entrance, but all the way to the ground. This way the feed will be right there, and I don't have to store it in my basement.

I have a shed maybe 10 feet from coop where I keep my feed and extra hay. this is also a shed where they hang out a lot when they are out free ranging.

Craigslist is a good way of finding a used one.
I have two of them which is what I use to store my feed. The feed is also inside galvanized garbage cans with lids. This is an attractive way to store your supplies, protect them from the elements, and have them located conveniently next to the coop.

Things sensitive to temperature - meds and such - are stored in the house. Bales of straw and pine shavings are stacked inside the coop. Feed is kept in a dog food vault with screw lid, also inside the coop. Chick stuff - like feeders, waterers, lamps, etc.- and assorted small sized chicken stuff is stored in a rubbermaid cabinet that is outside the coop, placed up against a coop wall for handy access.

It's hard to know where to keep all this chicken stuff!
