Where do I go to find good show quality silkies?

Bobbi does have good birds, just look at my website. I have 4 beautiful Buffs from her line. She is a very nice person. Like you said, one bad report is nothing compared to how many birds she sells and how many satisfied customers she has. I sell a LOT of eggs, and occasionally there is bound to be an unhappy customer. That's just business.

I got 5 silkies from Alan Stanford. They are gorgeous. He is the nices man, My 11yr old daughter didn't want to leave. He takes wonderful care of them, and it is very neat and clean.

Thanks fattie It really makes me angry when things like this happen Bobbi is a wonderful person and as I said she explains the difference between her "pet quality" and her show birds. Maybe the person was complaining about paking peanuts noone knows for sure. I do know she went out of her way for us and you could see she really loves her birds. It amazes me she has a name and can recognize evryone of her show quality breeders. When she gave my granddaughter the pair of pet silkies she was able to hold them and walk around with them while we were there, they were that tame. She even took the time to explain to my granddaughter exactly why they were pets and not show quality. My granddaughter is 8. she talked to her like she was a knowledgable person not some kid.
Bobbi is a member here but doesn't get on much. I am just glad others will come to her defense as well.
JMHO but I would buy from a breeder with one complaint before I would buy from one who posts bad things about another then adds her own website to sell the same kind of birds.

Yep, same here. Even George has had a complaint now & then, it happens to anyone selling a lot of birds or eggs. You can't please everyone. And as you saw at Bobbi's, George's birds are the bomb! She has quite a few from him. I don't care what one or 2 people say about George, to me he is the best, with Bobbi at a close second. I'd buy from either one of them in a heartbeat. If I won the lottery, I'd be buying from them right now, Lol! You can never have enough great Silkies! In fact this may sound crazy, but above my bed are 3 pictures: (I call them the 3 G's): George, Jesus, and the Greaseman.

I just wanted to say that both Bobbi and Alan have been wonderful to me. Everything I have ordered (Araucana) has arrived in perfect health and exactly as described. I would not hesitate to buy from or recommend them to any one looking for stock.

I believe Bobbi Porto of Indigo Egg has some of the best birds in the nation. I wish she would get her butt in the show ring a little more to prove it. I've been buying alot of birds from her over the last few years and couldn't be happier. Amazing quality on them! I remember when Chelsea blasted her last year too. The bratty teenager knowingly bought a bunch of pet quality culls at discounted prices and then fired away on poor Bobbi for not giving her top quality show prospects.

I've never personally bought birds from Alan or George, but I have gotten them via Bobbi. All I can say is Wowsers!!!!! I'd also love to get my hands on some blacks from Eddy Travers. I'd love some whites from Deb Steinberg. I am still drooling over those buffs that Deb sold a couple years back. Shorty Polston, Bradford, Barb Aerni, Coleen Stein, Cara Smith, Kathy Dahlbeck, etc all very reputable. I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch too.

I'm also going to give a big kudos to Connie Bergquist of Premier Silkies. She has helped me so much in getting into the show ring and learning what to keep or cull. Her show record speaks for the quality of birds she has. I'm proud to say that I own 3 black pullets, 5 white pullets, and 1 white cockerel from her.

Take a look at my photobucket page on my website. Most of the pics are of the birds from either Shorty Polston, Bobbi Porto, or Premier Silkies. Now take a look at the pics below. These were taken in my growout pen on monday...all these babies are 1-3 months old. This is what is coming out of Bobbi and Connie's birds. Judge for yourself.....

Pictures speak louder than words! These lil farts are only 1-3 months old. Wait til they fully bloom and are ready for the fall shows.

I will say that Bobbi and Connie's line are very consistent for what they throw....good feet, huge crests, nice combs, skin color, very typey birds. Bobbi's splash do carry the lavendar gene and occasionally throw chicks with light toes. They do turn black in a couple months though. Both of their black silkies are so beautiful. My Shorty Polston birds were also equally gorgeous. They just weren't as consistent in what they threw. I got a few single combs, red skin, 4 toers, 6 claws, and combs with points off them. I also got quite a few chinchilla greys and 3 red pyles out of those whites. Interesting eh? The black silkies I had from Shorty had a tendancy to throw silver in the hackle too. I raise about 400 silkie chicks a year though and try to keep records.
