Where do you buy your litter?

$8.50 for a 7.5 cu ft bale of pine shavings, kiln dried. Local lumber/farm/ranch store (yep, that's how they advertise themselves).

I pay right around $5.00 for a compressed bag of shavings BUT I also suplement that with paper shreddings from the local bank FOR FREE! The paper does nothing to absorb odors... I like the smell of the wood shavings.

I bought shredded bark mulch from the local rock and garden supply center. Comes by the yard, not in bags, but is much cheaper for the bulk of my bedding needs. Then I top dress with Dry Stall from the feed store. Keeps the coop nice and dry and my gals can even dust in the dry stall. Can't buy mulch in winter though, wait 'til it dries out in late spring or summer. Bring your 3/4 ton truck and get 2 yards. It will last a lot longer and you can tarp it to keep it dry (place mulch pile on high ground though

).
