Even if all broody breeds the broodiness was bred out there would still be those funky chickens that aren't supposed to go broody yet they do like my leghorn who has two chicks now and had 3 last year
Sexlinks, too. Every time I see them boogers shrieking at me from the nest box I grumble and tell them they ain't s'pose to be broody. Do they listen? Nope.

My reasoning for incubators vs broodies....

I use an incubator for many reasons. First, is that the chicks hatched out can be monitored and handled more easily when brooder raised. Second, I enjoy incubating. Third, if I let a hen brood, that's a months' worth of eggs I don't get. Fourth, it is detrimental to their health to set.

I still let a few of my hens hatch broods, but I don't let them all jump on the broody bandwagon.

Agree. I love watching broodies raise chicks. In fact, they're all I used for years.

They are not "just focusing on meat/egg production". A responsible breeder will breed for all the traits that make their breed a breed---this includes personality, and yes, broodiness. I don't think you understand what all breeders select for. I'm not quite sure what your point here is, so I don't think I'm explaining right. Sorry.

You make sense to me, Banti...the SOP and purpose of each breed (they're all different and bred for different traits) can be hard to understand, I guess.

Yeah, like they say SF hens aren't quite as broody, but all of mine are!
Also, the breeds like new Hampshire's are supposed to go broody, never had one brood a day in my life!

Yes, it does! My NH (Tink) is such a sweet bird, she follows me and runs around all crazy!

I would love for her to become a mother, but she is too jumpy and gets sidetracked VERY easily! Silly Tink!
