Where I can get Buff Orpington fertilized eggs on/near LI, NY?

It fine that she has been broody for a week, she will still sit on the shipped eggs. Unless your planning to take the chicks away from her as soon as the hatch is over I would put her in a wire cage or somewhere enclosed where the other chickens can't get to her nest to disturb her or the eggs. Food and water close by. Broodies don't get up to eat and drink like normal chickens. She knows when she needs to eat, drink or poo. Just keep an eye on her and make sure her food and water are close to her. She will hold her poo and should get up when she needs to go potty.

yep, sounds exactly like her. Can I move the nest box to another section of coop closer to her hatching time. I feel like she needs the company and opportunity to go out if she needs. Thanks for your advice, I think I'm going to need it! :–)

My two cents it's better to move her now and late evening/dark when you move her she is less likely to put up a fuss. If she does fuss and get up they usually settle back down within a few minutes or half hour just go off and leave her to settle on her own. She doesn't care if she has company or not. She is broody and broodies only have one thing on their minds hatching chicks! Make sure you have her in an enclosed area so the other hens can't get in and lay eggs in the nest or disturb her.

I've had chickens for many years and I now have buff orphingtons. They really are the best breed for the small homestead. I have no problem breaking the hens from broodiness. Here is how I do it. As soon as a hen goes broody by sitting on the nest and cackling at me I take her off and dump her entire hot belly in a bucket of cold water (I get her legs and entire chest wet up to her neck and wings). Then I place her in a confined cage that has about a 1/4 inch screened fenced bottom (this way she does not mess herself) with nothing to nest in. The next time I feed the chickens I check on her and again dunk her in cold water and let her go with the other chickens. If I find her trying to set on eggs again I repeat the process two full days. This process has always worked for me with my broody buff orpingtons. I breed orphingtons so I'm looking for a new pure bred rooster from a different blood line. I live in Manorville, Long Island and have a farm with more orpingtons in Maine. Please contact me if you have a pure bred orpington rooster. I have a young cockerel or a one and a half year old pure rooster that I can exchange with you for breeding.

I can give you pure buff orpington fertilized eggs because I breed them. I'm in Manorville (Suffolk County). I'm also looking for a new rooster to start a new blood line.

Hi Steven, I wish we had a buff orp roo but def not allowed where we are. it would be too noisy, although my hens make a ton of noise too so go figure! I really love buffs too and think they are awesome. Next time I have a broody, I will try your method. I have no need for any eggs as I've no broodies currently but thanks. Good luck in your search for a BO roo. I knew a lady up in westchester that was trying to rehome a few but that was last year. have you tried craigslist?
