Do yourself a favor and don't buy from any hatchery. Do a search for "Welsummers AND Hatchery" with me as author and you can see some of the posts I've made that describe my ordeal with Welsummers from hatcheries.
Are you wanting chicks, started birds, adults, or hatching eggs. I got my original started birds from one of the original five breeders that got Welsummers accepted in the APA in 1991.
You can see my birds on my website. Send me a personal email if you are interested in hatching eggs or chicks from me.
With the exception of Estes Hatchery who they bought it from Calicowoods but your BEST bet is to get them from the breeders who KNOWS their bloodlines and where they get their stock from.
Good one, Tailfeathers! If hubby's job layoff was not threatened, I would wanting a couple doz of your eggs.
I third the Whitmore Farms. He lives about 20 minutes from me. I visited him and purchased my Welsummer and Delaware eggs from him. Here they are just before going into the incubator.
They are on Day #15 and all but two are developing. One Delaware I dropped and the other was cloudy.
His Website is http://www.whitmorefarm.com/index.html. Really nice person. I hope to go back and visit his farm when it is sunny and green. The day I went we had had snow and it was windy and cold.

Yes, but Will was gracious enough to give me a few extra because we were in the middle of a really cold snap of weather. So I am still ahead of the game.
mothergoose (Christie Ritter) here on BYC has some lovely Welsummers. I hatched eggs from her and got 13 out of 16 to hatch and one of those three that didnt actually zipped partially then perished. One never started developing, so I consider that a wonderful fertility rate. She is in Illinois and I am in Ga. Here is my Alma:

Im truly sorry to hear about your husband being laid-off from your job. As a recruiter, I am intimately aware of how many folks have lost their jobs over this last year. The Land Development Engineers have been Im trying to think of the word decimated isnt quite accurate but its all that comes to mind. What really burns me up is that everyone I talked to knew for years that this was coming. They knew the balloon was going to burst but they just kept huffing and puffing into it. Unfortunately, there are so many other industries that are tied to the Housing Market that I dont think most folks gave it a seconds thought as to what the trickle down affect would be.
Let me just encourage you to encourage your husband all you can at this time. Believe me, if he is at all even half a man he is feeling a lot of pressure and probably guilt right now. He needs to know that you are with him "for better or for worse and for richer or for poorer". The absolute BEST gift you can give your hubby this Valentine's Day is to tell him that you will be by his side even if that means the two of you have to live in a cardboard box on some street for awhile. Just be there for him.
When the time comes that you want some eggs, just let me know.
Hey not saying anything , but the eggs I show in my picture seem to be darker than most marans eggs I have seen posted. The lighter colored eggs in the nest are from the Easter Eggers I got from Ideal.
For 2.00 a chick you cant beat it.
Now I did recently find a site with a person that has Welsumers, here eggs , if I read the site correctly , have won prizes at local fairs or shows. There is a picture of a little girl holding a carton of eggs and from what you can see they all look very dark and uniform in color.
The only reason I am not recommending her is that , while I have ordered hatching eggs from her, I am on a waiting list and have not received them yet, don't expect to until sometime in March.
Since dark eggs seem to be very in fashion now, I will post pictures of them when they arrive and keep everyone updated on their hatchability.
