where is the best place to buy seramas? soon to b 4-h member

I do have a few local customers for seramas and I have had better luck selling the "culls" as tiny pet bantams on Craigslist or some other type of ad.

Most people want something little and cute and are not interested in true breeding and these are the people that I can sell to with out having to mention the word "serama". I also use Yahoo! Freecycle or Cheapcycle, Hoobly etc etc

Not many people here are aware of Seramas. Most of my customers are from all over the US and I find them or they find me on the internet. Seramas are more popular with those that have computers and can stay connected with the breed info, other breeders and like minded-potential customers...

I do ship whenever someone is interested and willing to pay for it. I dont charge extra for shipping, and I dont mind the hassle of doing it to get the birds homes.

If you are going to breed though, you have to be prepared to really cull the birds if you dont have the space. I
t can fill up quickly and you are always going to find a time where you are having to keep too many birds in order to find them homes....or you will find that people want pairs or trios and you get stuck with extra roosters.
It takes a lot of your time to advertise these extra birds, and find them homes, unless you take them to a swap and give them away.

I can keep them for extended periods of time, because I have a farm and lots of space, and am soft-hearted.
Really, in the big picture, it doesn't make a lot of sense to keep and feed and raise these birds so that you can give them away or make 5 bucks on them as a novelty pet. The smart thing is to cull what you cant sell and not spend all your time and money feeding them.
That being said, I have 5 extra roos here that I feed that are either for sale, or too pretty to cull, or are "on hold" until I hatch a hen to sell to them in the fall..

BluegrassSeramas, do you have pics of them? I can take 1 or 2 off your hand for pet while i am searching for my dream pair. I live in southern california. Let me know what is the total cost for rooster or roosters n shipping. Thank you.

BluegrassSeramas, I can take one let me see if my friend want one too. I just want to have something in my yard now and search for the good one later. If n only if you happen to have some good one for sale please let me know.
Can you email me pics of what you have available and their stats (how big, small, age)? You know, line them up....

If I were looking for type in young birds, the youngest I would get them would be 3-4 months....

Really I dont get the SQ thing....do you want birds that have won shows? (or parents that have?)

You can show ANY bird (that doesnt have something to DQ it, like wry tail) ... That doesn't mean they will win though...

I could take my birds to local shows and win, I may even take them to bigger state shows and win, but If I took them to the Cajun Classic, I dont know that I would....? There are such great seramas there, and I would be up against heavy competition...

What if someone had seramas with terrible type and won a local show? Does that make them SQ? There is a guy on ebay with all these ribbons next to his not so great birds, but are they SQ?

If I have a GREAT roo, that has a really irregular comb, but the standard calls for a 5 point comb, and I show him and get 90/100 points (losing some show points for his comb) does that make him show quality if he is lacking something from the standard?

Just wondering!

Very good answer to the SQ questions of the ages! Loved the read!

Hello all,

I need all your help on this. First of all, i am new to this hobby n i did some research on seramas. Now i am searching for my ideal chicken but my county only allow 3-4 chicken per house hold. I recently got an offer of an adult A hen and a B rooster pair for 225$ from a local breeder.

Here are the questions:

1) Is that a good deal?

2) How do i know i am getting a good A or B cuz i only seen them on pictures?

3) Is there any other important thing i need to know when i purchase them?

All your input will be greatly appreciated.......thank you.
