Where Oh Where Has My Jackie Gone????

Missing my only Mama Hen. I went out today while I was making dinner, to feed veggie scraps, and she was out in the yard with the rest of the chickens and bitties etc. That was about 5:30 - 5:45. After dinner, I went out to play with the chickens, and I could not find her. I thought maybe she went out under he house during the rain or whatever, but then I remembered that the rain was before I was making dinner. I didnt really get worried until I saw that her bitties and her boyfriend/roommate went to roost and she was not there. And she didnt show up as it got darker. They are usually the first ones to bed in the evening. Then, the younger chickens and the Banties go to bed. I usually lock them all up at the same time.

I am already worried, but am still hopeful

that she found somewhere to roost for the night and will be back tomorrow. If she doesn't come back tomorrow, then I know she is gone and not coming back.

Still upset, even now.

I have a Speckled Sussex who went missing for a few days. She showed up for an hour one day and disappeared again. It took me another day to find her in an overgrown part of my yard with 16 (!!!) eggs in her nest. Hope this is the case for your girl too!

she's been raising bitties that are 7 1/2 weeks old. I was just asking my chicken man today about when I was going to get eggs from her again. Figures..... I start asking questions and thinking about how I can go about following his advice, then she goes missing. I really hope she comes back. I miss her already....

Soooo, I hear a strange noise outside. I go out to investigate. I check the chicken hutch, where Jackie and her hubby and bitties roost everynight. I open the door to the nesting area, and just inches from Big Boys back end, I see a black spider with red on the belly. I automatically think Black Widow (even though I could not really see the shape of the red). I come in to get by BIL to kill it. By the time we get back outside, its gone. Now I gotta worry about spiders.

Ya know, I was just mentioning today to my Chicken Man, that I have not had any problems with predators. And that I wasnt bragging, cuz if I brag, thats when the problems start..... I am never mentioning ever again anything good again, it always blows up in my face....,.

Thanx.. I hope she is just roaming. I dont think i'll find her with THAT many eggs (she's a game hen).

Another thing that someone mentioned.... She may have laid some eggs under the house and is nesting on them there... Wont be easy to get under there and check it out. Only about
enough room for an arm and a flashlight.... If she does come out, I'll have to get those holes closed up.

Watched her today to find out where she is going. I found her sitting on 6 eggs. I was wondering when she was going to start laying again.... guess I got my answer.... It was early this week. She's good for an egg a day. Sometimes she skips, depending on what time she laid the egg.

Anyway.... I am so happy!!!!! Now I get to try out the Incubator I built on Weds. Just in time I guess.....
