Where the magic happens

You know, TOH, it never ceases to amaze me the gorgeous houses around here that people have left to got to pot. What is up with that?

Mom wishes Daddy had let her have the old farmhouse torn down and new one put in it's place.

Old houses have to be rewired & replumbed. They also often have insulation issues. For every pro I can come up with, Mom has a con that usually involves lots of $.
Also, many were not up to code since they were built before such things were necessary. Odd door & window sizes are not uncommon, plus the 'creative engineering' used to solve some problems.

Well my set is not very fancy - but so far it is working - this is in my DH's nascar room - this room holds temps pretty well - gets plenty of light and fresh air and very little traffic during the day - DH also has his computer in here so at night he "batorsits" for me LOL

this is my LG --

My house has much of the old wiring from the 30's. It is in excellent shape and passed all building codes when we had it checked prior to purchase. Nob and post it is called.

Rugs on he floor and wood heat over come those issues. My house is 99 years old. No insulation, no sill plates, only very thick lumber.

My windows and doors are all the same size. My house is very symetrical.

Most often the windows and doors that were different sizes where because the frames where made on the job site, not prefab doors and windows like we have now.

That is the beauty of an old house.

You have to love an old house to live in it, care for it, fix it where you can live in it.

I love my old house!

My oldest son and his wife are starting the process of redoing an old house that is on a piece of ground we own. It's a neat old house and they want to save it. It was built in 1882. They've got it stripped down to the studs inside and are getting ready to put a new basement under it.

I don't have a bator room to show, I just wanted to say that the house I just moved out of supposedly started its' life as a chicken coop. I don't know how old it is, but was told by the previous owner (who lived there since the 60's and bought the house from the original owner) that the orange trees in the yard were over 100 years old. They are the best oranges I've ever tasted!
The house had been added on to many times and the new owners are planning on tearing it down. I would love to find a picture of the coop.

My house i belive was built in 1915 havent researched it yet,the sidewalk outside has the date in it.Could be older. It has the nob and post wiring.Course we are trying to fix the wiring in the kitchen now as it went all wonky. But considering we rented it for 5 years then bought it for 5k doing the work on it is worth it.Its on 4 huge lots with fields west, north and east of me and one house infront of me and there never home much.Oh and it has a barn to wich the chickens and ducks are taking over.It use to have a chicken coop where my former chickens lived but a tornado dropped a tree on it

I love my old house.....

The laundry room is where the magic happens at my house. As you can see, I've got my candler, paper towels and notebook to keep track of temp etc. handy. There is also a deep sink near by for clean up.

Someday I hope to expand to the other side of the room with more incubators and hatchers. I've got plenty of countertop room and if I get really crazy I can take out the clothesbaskets and put bators in there :)

Kids broke the camara, so no pics, but i keep the bators in the bird room. The temp is stable there as it has to be for the parrots. And, hopefully one of these days I'll get lucky and get one of those talking marans I heard about.
