WHICH ARE BETTER FOR EGGS RIR OR NH

I have both. My RIRs lay a nice, dark egg. Big too. They are pretty mellow, and curious. My NHR lay a nice size egg, and are mellow. Not quite as much personality to them, though (in my flock, anyway).

Just want to warn you, if you order RIRs from a hatchery you probably WON'T get the standard, really dark red ones. Mine are probably darker than the majority of the pics of hatchery stock I've seen, but certainly are not the super dark red of show strains.

Great girls, though. Can't go wrong with either! (Black or Red Stars are also a great egg laying choice)

I think I have both. If they are in the nest when I'm gathering eggs I leave them alone. I'm tired of blood blisters on my hands from them pecking.

RIR's lay awfully well..........never had NH's but, it'd be hard to beat RIR's unless it was a sex-link.
