I have 5 hybrid chickens and one Cochin frizzle which I took in for a friend.
I’m looking to add 4 bantams to the group - slowly of course.
My Cochin is super broody so I would like breeds less broody than her.
I have the choice of:
Buff sussex
Black Orpington
Cuckoo Maran
Gold Laced Wyandotte
All obviously bantams. I went to visit the breeder pre purchase and got a bit confuddled. I expected to choose Cuckoo Marans as they apparently go less broody but then ended up thinking I wanted one of each of the above. This is partly because I can tell the difference so give them names (I think all marans might be difficult to distinguish??) and partly because it got a bit confusing in the day with so many breeds to see.
My question is - what would you do? Apparently the Sussex and Maran are rarely broody so should I just get them?
Is it about the breed only or 50/50 breed v particular hen?

I'd get at least 5 of each breed.
