Which breed should I pick??? HELP!!!

I've had Buff Orpingtons and they are great! I hand raised mine and they do amazing with my 2.5 year old. They've always been super friendly. He can go up to them and pet them and they don't seem to mind at all. :)

Thanks!!! I'm really excited to get some Buff Orpingtons as I have never had them before!!! :wee

I only have a small flock but my 2 friendliest birds are my Black Australorp and my Easter Egger, though neither has started laying yet so I can't speak on that. The EE is the only one that lets me pick her up and cuddle her without fuss.

My best layer is my Leghorn but she is extremely skittish. My Orpington isn't "friendly" per say, but she does not run from me like the Wyandottes or the Leghorn does.

Some coloured eggs would be great!!! Do you think an Easter egger would get along with a yorkie? Our dog is lovely with the girls but we did get rid of one chicken that was as constantly harassing him.

I would recommend Golden Comets Because they are extremely friendly and are on of the top breeds in laying they lay 300+ eggs a year while orpingtons lay 200 a year but a downside that i would like to make very clear is that these birds do lay a lot of eggs causing them to usually die off after they are 2 years old.

Thank you! My family eats a lot of eggs!!!

Most hens/pullets are fine around people and don't hurt kids. So I would pick a breed or breeds that you like the look of. Most hatchery fowl lay decently enough to keep a family in eggs.

If you want lots of eggs look into leghorns or sexlinks. If you want something slow and cuddly then get a fat dog.

We got the fat dog bit! Are there any particularly beautiful good layers out there that aren't too big that you know about?

If you're going to get six, I'd suggest (If you want a beautiful/calm/friendly flock) getting #1 Orphingtons #2 Cochins #3 Brahmas #4 Faverolles #5 Silkies Or #6 Polishes Most people say polishes are very nervous birds but i have a couple and they're all my friendliest birds in the flock! my Brahmas/cochins/Faverolles run up to me and snuggled up right into your lap, my 1 Orphington loves to be pet and follows you everywhere. Silkies... there basically like puppies~

Ancona, leghorn, and hamburgs are great looking fowl. I think Dominiques are great looking as well, though bigger than the others mentioned.

Here are a few pics of them if you want any ideas
