Which breed should I pick??? HELP!!!

I personally wouldn't mix crested birds with regular ones simply because of the tendency to pick on them and definitely wouldn't put a silkie with standards, but that's just due to my personal experiences. Very hard to get attached to a bird and lose it to birds in your own flock. :( (Many years ago, but happened once with a bantam polish mixed in with a flock and once with a bantam silkie mixed in a totally different flock and I never tried to mix again.)

My Polish in a mixed flock are constantly getting their head feathers pulled by curious jerks in the coop. Our barred rocks are super friendly! Buff orpingtons are friendly but look at us like treat machines... and we just hatched out some black australorps (hen raised) so I'm hoping they still like us even though we're not handling them

We have never had any problems with that happening to our crested chickens... i've had a couple of silkies... They all seems to get along with each other.... unfortunately they were killed by raccoons. Guess i just turned out lucky? never really thought about that being a problem

It's probably been stated several times by now. I haven't read the whole thread . orpingtons and wyandottes both are gentle, docile, good with kids, handle extremes in temperature well, and lay a lot of eggs . Have a wide gene pool with no inbreeding problems and lots of breeders who know what they're doing. buy your chicks from somebody who's been breeding them from a while.
Best ,
Karen
