Sure they were. I used to go up to South Dakota every year and it happened every year.
Most were thinking photo ops. I imagine with cell phones with nice cameras it's increased quite a bit

Maybe we're just heraring about it more often now. I think I can remember a couple stories about people being killed by their stupid over the years, but not like the last few have been.

Yes, I think most everything dumb that happens has always happened. It is just now we have instant access to seeing it. Plus, there are more people, so probably more of it happening as well.
