If I ever find myself in that part of the world again, I want to take the train between Sacramento and Reno. It's part of the original Transcontinental Railroad and looks like ALL trestle crossing the Sierra Nevada.

We love our mountains. I'm only about halfway up and to the west of Donner, but even here, it's ridiculous. I live in the Tahoe National Forest. I can't tell you how much I love it. I wake up every day and think, "Holy cats. This is where I live."

There is a kid series called kids eyewitness or something like that, It's a
Series about historical US events from a kids perspective. I was reshelving them in our library and the Donner party one caught me off guard.
"San Francisco Earthquake...Trail of Tears...Dusbowl...Oregon Trail...Pearl Harbor...Donner Party...........Donner party?! for children?! Who thought that was ok?!
